INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY

Where It All Started

This International Women’s Day, our founders Geo and Lou open up about building Cin Cin - from school friends to founders, and everything in between.

Before Cin Cin, who were you to each other?

Before Cin Cin we were close friends who met in our twenties. We saved up from our fashion retail jobs and travelled the world together, then later to Bali where the seed for Cin Cin got planted.

Did you ever imagine you’d be building a brand together one day? When did it shift from friendship to partnership?

Geo: We didn’t imagine building a brand, but we dreamt of an entrepreneurial life in Bali. When we were there, we were with friends who worked in fashion production and for Russh magazine, so we were very charmed by the new world we were introduced to. We decided to start Cin Cin after having returned to Sydney, thinking ‘what’s next’?

Lou: I clearly remember sitting at a beach club in Tulum, chatting and bouncing ideas off each other about how we could build something together - we were both resistant to returning to a mundane office life. When we got back to Australia, that’s when we really started turning those ideas into reality.

What makes you feel confident?

Geo: Wearing an outfit that matches my exact mood that day, and better yet, an outfit I had a hand in designing and bringing to life. The companionship and courageousness of my rescue dogs also give me confidence.

Lou: When I’m taking care of my health and fitness, I feel my best. My mindset shifts, I feel confident, clear-headed, and ready to take on whatever life throws my way.

What’s a belief you had to unlearn to step into the woman you are today?

Geo: Learning to follow your intuition and instinct when needed, in a world where the logical business mind is usually always put first.

Lou: To stop people-pleasing, I remind myself that there are only a handful of people in my life I truly connect with and those are the ones I choose to give my energy to.

Who are the women that shaped you?

Geo: My mum. Always the one I can call for sage advice and a calming perspective. Germaine Greer and Naomi Wolf were also part of an awakening in my youth, articulating what I always sensed but hadnt fully grasped. Germaine Greer is the smartest, quickest and most lethal woman I’ve ever seen on panel shows too. If I could invite 5 people to dinner…

Lou: I’ve always been inspired by the women in my family and my friends, their achievements, strength, and determination continually motivate me.
