MOTHER'S DAY

This Mother’s Day, we’re celebrating the women in our community who do it all with grace, style, and intention. We spoke with creator and mother Olena (known as @whatsthehelen) about motherhood, travel, personal rituals, and the little luxuries she’ll never give up.

How has motherhood changed you most, and what has been your proudest moment so far?

Firstly, I must admit, everyone having kids is a HERO. The first year with a newborn has been quite challenging for us as a family, with sleep deprivation, schedules, and changing family dynamics. I’m extremely proud of us as a family, and my biggest personal milestone as a mother must be prolonged breastfeeding.

What does your perfect Mother’s Day look like: a grand gesture, or something quiet and deeply personal?

My toddler daughter is at the stage where she constantly gifts me kisses and hugs, and it’s probably the best gift I receive daily. I’m definitely a person who loves receiving experiences and personal gestures as gifts, so I expect a mother mini-vacation trip from my husband this year.

Is there a destination you love returning to with your family and what’s always in your suitcase?

Maldives would be our go-to destination for complete relaxation and disconnection. For a short trip, we would choose the Caribbean or Mexico — places we return to multiple times yearly. And Europe is another home away from home where part of our family lives — that’s another special place for us.

What’s one self-care ritual, habit, or little luxury you refused to give up after becoming a mother?

My favorite meals and overall diet. I haven’t had any unusual cravings or limitations during or after pregnancy and have been eating the same food I love! I also love freshly prepared, protein-rich meals, and I feel grateful that I have had help in the household to keep my diet fresh and nutritionally rich even during some of the busiest weeks with a baby.

What’s something your mother or mother figure did? Perhaps something small she never thought twice about that you now catch yourself doing too?

I grew up seeing my mother host events and dinners for our family and friends. And it’s still my favorite thing to do whenever I get the chance! Hosting dinners and tea parties with friends and family, with lots of laughs and deep conversations.
